UCA iPad Requirements
For Students Entering Grades 6–12
UC Academy uses a digital curriculum to provide students with an interactive, engaging learning environment and the flexibility to access their coursework both at school and at home.
Students entering Grades 6–12 are required to provide their own iPad that meets UCA's current technology specifications.

iPad Requirements
To ensure compatibility with UCA's digital curriculum and classroom technology, students must have an iPad that meets the following requirements:
Minimum Requirement
iPad 7th generation • iPad mini 5th generation • iPad Air 3rd generation • iPad Pro 1st generation
iPadOS 18 or later
Recommended
iPad 11th generation • iPad mini 7th generation • iPad Air M3 (7th generation) • iPad Pro M4 (8th generation)
iPadOS 26 or later
Our recommendation: While a minimum-specification iPad will meet the current requirements, a newer recommended model will provide better performance and stability as apps and digital curriculum are updated and is more likely to remain useful for several school years.
Wi-Fi Requirements
New students must have an iPad with Wi-Fi 6 capability.
Wi-Fi 6-capable iPad models include:
- iPad 10th generation
- iPad mini 6th generation
- iPad Air 4th generation
- iPad Pro 4th generation
Cellular service is not required. All iPads include Wi-Fi connectivity; families may choose a cellular model if desired.
Storage Requirements
Minimum: 128GB
Recommended: 256GB
UCA uses downloadable digital curriculum whenever possible so students can access their coursework without relying on a constant Internet connection. Because digital textbooks, apps, and operating-system updates require storage space, 128GB is the minimum storage capacity required by UCA.
For families purchasing a new iPad, we recommend 256GB for greater flexibility and longer-term use.
Protecting Your Student's iPad
AppleCare+
AppleCare+ is required and must be purchased separately within 60 days of purchasing the iPad.
AppleCare+ provides additional protection and service options for your device. Families can visit an Apple Store for service, including the Apple Store at Victoria Gardens, which is the closest Apple Store to UCA.
Protective Case
A rigid protective case that covers the front, back, corners, and edges of the iPad is required.
Because students carry their iPads in backpacks along with books and supplies, a durable case is essential.
When selecting a case, look for one that:
- Completely covers the front and back of the iPad
- Provides substantial protection for all four corners and edges
- Closes securely and does not open easily
- Keeps the iPad screen from resting directly on a surface when placed face down
Recommended brands:
An external keyboard and stylus are highly recommended, but are not required.
Purchasing an iPad
Families may purchase an iPad from the retailer of their choice. New or previously owned devices may be used as long as they meet all current UCA requirements.
Common retailers include:
Trade-In Options
Families may also consider trading in an existing device to help offset the cost of a new iPad.
Available trade-in programs include:
Financing
Apple offers financing options for eligible customers purchasing Apple products. Visit Apple for current financing options and terms.
Tuition Assistance
We understand that the cost of tuition and technology can be a significant consideration for families. UCA offers tuition assistance to qualifying families with demonstrated financial need.
