Elementary Arts

At the Elementary level, the UC Academy offers a wide range of exploratory and elective classes for students to choose from. The exploratory classes provide each grade level the chance to “explore” various areas of Visual and Performing Arts. One of the key areas is our Music program, which is offered as a special class for all K–5 students once a week.

Classes Offered
In-School Music Classes
Grades K–2: Exploratory Music
Students build a foundation in music through singing and introductory music theory. The focus is on exploration, creativity, and developing a love for music.
Grade 3: Music Application
Students begin applying their knowledge by continuing to sing and learning to play basic instruments such as the ukulele and recorder.
Grades 4–5: Band or Choir Track
In fourth grade, students select a two-year track in either band or choir. This allows them to specialize in instrumental or vocal performance, providing a strong foundation for our upper-level choir and band programs.
This structure creates a clear trajectory from early music exploration to specialized performance, supporting students as they grow into confident musicians throughout their K–12 journey.
After-School Performing & Art Groups
In addition to their weekly music class, elementary students may also participate in after-school performing and art groups, which provide creative outlets beyond the classroom:
- Spotlight Starters Theater – an introduction to stage performance and acting that performs at our Christmas concert.
- Elementary Dance Troupe – a performance-based group for students passionate about dance.
- Worship Team – an opportunity for students to lead and participate in worship through music every week at chapel.
- Elementary Art Class – hands-on exploration of visual arts, encouraging creativity and artistic expression.
